Ado-Ekiti—As the 2026 gubernatorial election approaches, former Ekiti Governor Kayode Fayemi has officially endorsed Biodun Oyebanji for a second term.

Fayemi announced his support during an All Progressive Congress (APC) stakeholders meeting in Isan-Ekiti on Thursday.

Fayemi praised Oyebanji’s performance across various sectors, expressing confidence in his administration. He welcomed any party members interested in contesting against Oyebanji but emphasized that his support for the current governor remains steadfast.

“We have serious work at hand, and by early next year, INEC will announce the election date. Many are calling for Oyebanji’s reelection, including those who previously opposed him,” Fayemi stated. He noted that some former party members, who had left to contest elsewhere, are now back in APC advocating for Oyebanji.

Fayemi differentiated his leadership style from Oyebanji’s, stating, “I am not a leader that will work and come back to destroy it.” He acknowledged that some individuals may seek to create discord between him and the governor but reiterated his commitment to supporting Oyebanji.

He also addressed the need for unity within the party, asserting that if the APC stands together, it will gain support from national leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, who backs Oyebanji. Fayemi clarified that there are no automatic tickets for National and State Assembly members and urged lawmakers to work for Oyebanji’s success to demonstrate their worthiness.

As the party prepares for the upcoming election, Fayemi encouraged all interested candidates to participate while reaffirming his family’s commitment to Oyebanji’s campaign.
