Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has called on Nigerians to celebrate Christmas with moderation and extend a helping hand to the less privileged and vulnerable in society.

In his Christmas message at the Ogun State Christmas Carol and Service of Nine Lessons, Abiodun emphasized that Christmas is a time for unity, love, compassion, kindness, and faith.

“It’s a season that inspires us to look beyond ourselves and embrace the bond of family and friendship,” Abiodun said. “Let’s extend our hands to the needy, for such acts reflect Christ’s life to the world.”

He urged Nigerians to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas, which is about giving and sharing, and to support the needy in their communities.

Abiodun’s administration has been committed to uplifting the vulnerable by fostering inclusiveness and promoting programs that spread love, compassion, and empowerment across Ogun State.

He noted that his administration’s greatest success is not the legacy imprinted on the hearts of the people, but the strength of the community, the resilience of the people, and the compassion shown to one another.

The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Most Reverend Nicolas Okoh, also emphasized the importance of reconciliation and peace during Christmas. “Christmas should not be celebrated only with friends, but with all men,” Okoh said.

“As believers, we should bear the burden of peace and cross the mountain of hatred.”
The Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel), Bishop David Oyedepo, prayed for peace in the state and nation, reminding Nigerians that the essence of Christmas is not only to make merriment but to show love to one another through peaceful coexistence.

The carol service was attended by notable figures, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Governor Olusegun Osoba, and Bishop Oyedepo. Highlights of the service included Bible readings and renditions by various choirs and guest artists.
