FG threatens sanctions against Air Peace over delayed refunds

Published on

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has warned Air Peace to immediately refund a passenger, Falayi Temitope, whose flight was cancelled in October 2024, or face sanctions.

Temitope took to social media, lamenting that despite requesting a refund on October 16, Air Peace had failed to reimburse him. He cited Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations, which mandates refunds within 14 days for electronically purchased tickets.

NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, intervened, stating: “Part 19 is clear: cash refunds are immediate, while electronic purchases require refunds within 14 days. @flyairpeace, we expect an immediate refund.”

Achimugu warned that airlines failing to comply with refund timelines will face sanctions. “The Consumer Protection Department has supported passengers and operators. Now, airlines must reciprocate. Non-compliance will be met with adequate sanctions.”

He apologized for delayed refunds, stating his department is reviewing regulations to reduce refund timelines to seven days. “Nigerian passengers deserve world-class service.”
