Group Threatens Counter-protest as demonstrations loom over Farotimi

Published on

A group, Justice for Afe Babalola Legacy (JABL), has warned protesters planning to demonstrate in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday over the detention of human rights activist Dele Farotimi to desist or face consequences.

The protest, slated for December 10, is part of a nationwide demonstration called by human rights activist Omoyele Sowore in Ekiti, Lagos, Abuja, and London.

Chief Michael Osaloni, Olotin of Ado-Ekiti and JABL member, described Aare Afe Babalola, founder of Afe Babalola University, as a global icon whose integrity cannot be tarnished.

Osaloni labeled Farotimi and his colleagues as “professional protesters” who disrupt the country’s peace.
“Farotimi and others are professional protesters; they want to turn the country upside down over little things,” Osaloni said. “You must be prepared to face the consequences of what you say but cannot defend.”

Rotimi Opeyeoluwa, JABL’s publicity secretary, urged Farotimi to provide evidence of corruption against Babalola, as documented in his book “Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System.”

“This is not a David and Goliath case; we need to set the record straight,” Opeyeoluwa stated. “Let Dele Farotimi produce evidence of Aare Afe Babalola corrupting the judiciary; that’s our demand.”
