The Ogun State House of Assembly has called on the Federal Government to reconstruct the Ebute-Igbooro/Oja-Odan/Pobe International road, which connects Nigeria to the Republic of Benin.
The resolution was passed after a motion sponsored by Hon. Wahab Haruna, representing Yewa North II State Constituency, was adopted by the lawmakers through a voice vote.
The international road is considered crucial for regional diplomacy and socio-economic benefits, serving as a gateway for tourism, international trade, and cross-border investments.
However, its deplorable state has raised concerns, with lawmakers emphasizing the need for immediate attention from the Federal Ministry of Works.

Hon. Babatunde Tella, representing Abeokuta North State Constituency, highlighted the road’s strategic importance, stating that it plays a critical role in fostering socio-economic ties and cultural exchanges between Nigeria and Benin Republic. He also acknowledged the efforts of the State government in undertaking numerous road projects to enhance connectivity and socio-economic development.
Other lawmakers, including Adegoke Adeyanju, Olakunle Sobukanla, and Adebisi Oyedele, supported the motion, emphasizing the road’s benefits to the nation and neighboring countries.
In a related development, the Assembly also passed a resolution calling on the State government to renovate and overhaul the State Hospital, Ode-lemo, and rehabilitate the access road leading to the hospital. The motion was sponsored by Hon. Damilare Bello, who urged the government to renovate and staff the health facilities to deliver quality healthcare services to the people.
This move comes as the community of Igbokofi, located in Yewa North LGA, continues to face challenges related to the border dispute with Benin Republic. The community has accused Benin Republic of land encroachment, intimidation, and illegal arrest, with some residents claiming that the neighboring country has built structures, including a police post and warehouses, within Nigerian territory.
