TotalEnergies EP, a multinational firm, has restated its dedication to renewable energy and sustainable development in the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole.

The company aims to contribute to the well-being of the people while preserving the region’s biodiversity and developing young talents.

Speaking at the 13th Practical Nigerian Content (PNC) Forum in Yenagoa, the Executive Director, JV Assets, TotalEnergies EP, Mr. Obi Imemba, emphasized the importance of sustainability in the company’s operations.

“Climate change is a global challenge, and we believe that whatever we do, if we want a sustainable future for all of us, we need to make sure that our activities are not detrimental to the environment,” he said.

Imemba noted that the company recognizes the growing need for energy, but emphasized the importance of producing this energy in a sustainable manner.

“When we talk about sustainability, some people just talk and think about climate. But the first pillar of sustainability is the people. And that is where capacity building comes up of those people that will be the anchor that will drive the production in a sustainable manner,” he explained.

The Executive Director highlighted TotalEnergies’ efforts in capacity building, citing the establishment of the Institute of Petroleum Studies, Uniport, a tripartite partnership between IFP School in Paris, Uniport, and TotalEnergies. The institute has produced over 700 master’s degrees and MSc PGD candidates, many of whom have been recruited by TotalEnergies and other companies in the industry.

Imemba lauded the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) for deepening local content in the country, noting that TotalEnergies has achieved over 94% local content in its operations. “We have achieved more than 94% local content in terms of 100% from engineering, installation, construction, and installation among others, and this was done during the COVID period,” he said.

The Executive Director emphasized TotalEnergies’ commitment to developing the capacity of people from its host communities. “One thing we are very proud about is our intentionality in developing the capacity of our people from our communities.

This is very cardinal for us in whatever we do. For every project, we identify people from the communities that we will give all levels of training,” he said.
