Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured that he will implement the recommendations of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the destruction of local government council secretariats in the state.

The governor made this promise after receiving the commission’s report, which was submitted by the Chairman, Justice Ibiwengi Roseline Minakiri, at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

Fubara emphasized that his administration will not tolerate violence and destruction in the state, stating that “politics is a business of interest” and not a contest of violence.

He recalled how a group of persons had previously wreaked havoc in the state, burning down court buildings before 2014, and noted that the same individuals have resurfaced, extending their violence to local government councils.

The governor thanked the commission members for their bravery and determination in completing their task despite physical and legal threats.

He assured that the report will be presented to the Executive Council, and a white paper will be released to ensure that those responsible for the destruction face the law.

Fubara’s commitment to implementing the report’s recommendations is seen as a significant step towards addressing the violence and destruction that have plagued the state. The governor’s vow to hold perpetrators accountable and promote peaceful politics is a welcome development for the people of Rivers State.
