The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a man, Promise Boniface, for allegedly kidnapping five children from a family in Obio Ibiono Local Government Area.
The children were rescued unhurt and reunited with their parents.
According to Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, Boniface was arrested after a distress call was received from a woman reporting that her five children had been taken away by an unknown man on a motorcycle.
The police operatives, accompanied by villagers, chased and arrested Boniface, recovering the motorcycle used in the crime.
In a separate incident, the police neutralized one suspected kidnapper during a gun duel along Ikot Ekpene-Uyo Highway.

The suspect was attempting to kidnap a woman’s husband when the police operatives intervened. Items recovered from the scene include an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and charms.
Additionally, the police arrested David Nse Emmanuel for operating a gun-making factory that produced firearms for criminals. Seven single-barrel guns, five double-barrel guns, and other weapons were recovered.
Other arrests made by the police include:
Armed Robbery Gang: Joshua Linus, Isaac Archibong, and Christian Archibong were arrested for invading a residence and robbing a woman and a POS operator.
Car Theft: Clement Ime Okon, Thomas Effiong, Joseph Okon Edem, Saviour Agbor, and Matthew Elijah Stephen were arrested for stealing a Toyota Camry car. The stolen car was recovered, and three locally made pistols and charms were found.
Car Theft: Kingsley Ernest Nelson was arrested for stealing a Toyota Corolla car. Investigations revealed he had been previously charged with similar offenses.
The Commissioner of Police assured citizens that the command will continue to intensify efforts against crime and protect lives and property.
