The Oyo State Government says it will continue to prioritise the welfare of People Living with Disabilities (PWDs) in the state.
Gov. Seyi Makinde stated this on Monday through his deputy, Mr Bayo Lawal, at the stakeholders’ summit organised in Ibadan by the Oyo State Agency for Persons with Disabilities.
The event also marked the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The governor said that his administration, which had been catering for the welfare of disabled people since its assumption in 2019, was ready to do more.
He disclosed that the 2025 capital budgetary allocation had been increased by over 70 per cent of what it was in 2024 to take care of their requests.
Makinde equally said that 510 PWDs were among those recently recruited into the state civil service.
“I have also given a directive that henceforth, in every ministry, the quota of the persons with disabilities must be protected.
“Again, we have approved Disability Cluster Groups’ grants and subvention, and in no distant time, three operational vehicles will be delivered for the smooth running of the Oyo State Agency for Persons with Disabilities,” he said.
The Director-General of the agency, Mr Ayodele Adekanmbi, said the state government was truly committed to the agency; always there to provide opportunities for PWDs.
He maintained that the Makinde-led administration had also put in place some initiatives to improve access to governance and quality of service to PWDs. NAN
