In a shocking incident, Ismail Usman, a local herbalist in Abuja’s Kuchibuyi Village, lies critically injured in a hospital bed, a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of blind faith and reckless ambition. His gruesome mistake has left his community reeling in horror.

Usman’s ill-fated attempt to test his self-made “bulletproof” charm unfolded on November 23, 2024, when he boldly, yet foolishly, decided to fire a shotgun at his own stomach. The charm’s promised invincibility shattered, leaving him writhing in agony with life-threatening injuries.

The harrowing scene unfolded at Usman’s residence, where Shandam Michael, a distraught witness, frantically dialed the police emergency line, reporting the bizarre incident. Officers from the Byazhin Division rushed to the scene, finding Usman on the brink of collapse.

They swiftly transported him to Kubwa General Hospital and later transferred him to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for intensive care.

Police investigations revealed a chilling array of homemade charms and the shotgun used in the ill-fated experiment. Usman now faces charges for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, strongly condemned the incident, emphasizing the dire risks associated with illegal firearms and reckless behavior.

“This tragic event serves as a stark warning to our community. We urge residents to prioritize safety and report suspicious activities.”

Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh echoed this sentiment, stressing vigilance. “Community members must look out for one another, reporting any dubious practices that threaten our collective security.”

As Usman fights for his life, his community grapples with the stark reality of his actions. Will this tragic incident serve as a wake-up call, or will the allure of mystical powers continue to claim victims?
