Zulum urges Tinubu to withdraw Tax Reform Bill

Published on

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has called on President Bola Tinubu to withdraw the proposed Tax Reform Bill, citing its potential to disadvantage the entire northern region, as well as other parts of the country.

In an interview with BBC Hausa service, Zulum emphasized that the bill would hinder progress in the North, South East, South South, and South West, while benefiting only Lagos.

“The tax reform bill will bring backwardness to the North and other regions,” Zulum stated. “States like Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ondo will also face problems.”

He clarified that although they were informed the bill might put Lagos at a disadvantage, they do not wish for any disadvantages to affect Lagos State.

Zulum appealed to President Tinubu to reconsider the bill, given that 60% of his votes came from the northern region.
He urged the president to disregard perceptions that the northern population does not support him, stressing that this notion is inaccurate. Instead, Zulum emphasized that the northern region’s primary request is for the president to withdraw the Tax Reform Bill.
