The Lagos State chapter of the Labour Party has organized a football tournament to promote social cohesion among youths of diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds in the state’s 20 local government areas.
Speaking with journalists at the match draws held at the party’s secretariat in the Ikeja G.R.A ahead of the kick-off of the tournament scheduled for Saturday, October 26, the Chairman of the party, Pastor Dayo Ekong, who was represented by the state secretary of the party, Chief Sam Okpala explained that the tournament ‘’would unify the people, youths, wards, local government areas and the entire Lagos state without being tribalistic or on religious grounds but to engage the youths in a positive way devoid of negative vices amongst the youths.’’
He said that adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent thugs from disrupting the matches.

He added that ‘’mouthwatering prizes for winners would be announced at the end of the tournament.’’
In his remarks, the deputy state chairman of the party, Olasupo Ajayi, advised the participating teams to exhibit sportsmanship on and off the pitch.
The youth leader of the party, Pius Omodaratan said the tournament is an inter-LGA.The draw is being held today to identify each match order ( teams facing each other) and the football kick-off shall commence by Saturday the 26th of October 2024.”
