    Bode George urges Tinubu to intervene in Rivers crisis

    *Says Wike's actions could destabilize the region

    Chief Bode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the escalating crisis in Rivers State, warning that Minister Nyesom Wike’s actions could destabilize the region.

    George who was responding to questions during an interview on Channels television, `Politics Today´ yesterday, said: “Governor Siminalayi Fubara should be allowed to govern and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Rivers State without interference,” George said, emphasizing the importance of peaceful governance.

    George expressed concerns over the recent local government elections, stating, “Any threat to peace in Rivers State could have severe security consequences, not just for Nigeria, but for the entire West African region.”

    Drawing parallels with Nigeria’s past, George cautioned, “This is similar to the political crisis that triggered the 1966 coup, which led to the civil war. We must avoid such crises that can disrupt our democracy.”

    George criticized the timing of political maneuvering, saying, “The political ambitions of individuals should not come at the expense of peace and development. It’s too early to start strategizing for the 2027 elections.”

    He advised Wike, who served as Rivers’ governor for eight years, to step aside and let Governor Fubara govern. “By 2027, the people of Rivers State will decide through their votes whether they want Fubara to continue or not.”

    George also addressed conflicting court rulings, urging judicial officers to remain impartial. “Let the judiciary be independent, and not be influenced by politicians.”

    George appealed to Wike to prioritize the people’s interests, saying, “Put the interest of Rivers people ahead of personal ambition.” He expressed hope for Governor Fubara’s success and prayed for the resolution of the political turmoil, stating, “This must end in the interest of all Nigerians.”
