    Domestic air fare rises 25% to N123,700 in one month

    The domestic air fare increased by 25.5% month-on-month (MoM) to N123,700 in August 2024, up from N98,561 in July 2024.

    According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Transport Fare Watch for August, Niger State recorded the highest air fare at N129,575, followed closely by Abuja at N129,442.
    The NBS reported that the average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes single journey was N123,700.14 in August 2024, representing a 25.51% increase from July 2024. On a year-on-year basis, the fare rose by 56.56% from N79,011.38 in August 2023.
    Highest and Lowest Air Fares by State:
    • Highest: Niger (N129,575.21) and Abuja (N129,442.67)
    • Lowest: Zamfara (N102,665.89) and Cross River (N120,088.93)
    In other transportation categories:
    • Intercity Bus Fare: Increased by 0.59% MoM to N7,159 in August 2024.
      • Highest: Anambra (N9,580.85) and Gombe (N8,349.26)
      • Lowest: Kwara (N5,574.46) and Ebonyi (N5,614.81)
    • Okada Fare: Increased by 8.46% MoM to N524.22 in August 2024.
      • Highest: Lagos (N909.20) and Ondo (N761.39)
      • Lowest: Bayelsa (N312.10) and Anambra (N317.05)
    • Water Transport Fare: Increased by 3.3% MoM to N1,449 in August 2024.
      • Highest: Bayelsa (N4,563.98) and Delta (N4,261.55)
      • Lowest: Borno (N475.89) and Gombe (N619.19)
    • Intracity Bus Fare: Decreased by 7.7% MoM to N869.35 in August 2024.
      • Highest: Zamfara (N1,155.52) and Ondo (N1,065.20)
      • Lowest: Adamawa (N455.33) and Abia (N455.35)
