Teachers in public primary schools in the Federal Capital Territory have begun an indefinite strike due to unpaid minimum wage arrears and other obligations.

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) FCT Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Shafa, announced the decision after the Area Council Chairmen failed to respond to a 14-day ultimatum.

The strike stems from unresolved issues, including: unpaid 60% of 25 months minimum wage arrears; unimplemented salary increases; unpaid peculiar allowances; unpaid N35,000 wage award.

The FCT Minister’s intervention, covering 40% of the minimum wage arrears, was acknowledged. However, the Council Chairmen’s non-response prompted the strike.
