The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a wanted drug baron, Alhaji Suleiman Ganiu Aremu (aka Barryshine), after a two-year investigation.
Aremu is the Managing Director/CEO of Barryshine Suleiman Nigeria Ltd and has been linked to four foiled attempts to export cocaine to Saudi Arabia and Qatar through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
“The long arm of the law will always get whoever is involved in the criminal trade, no matter how long it takes,” said NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd).
The investigation revealed that Aremu hired drug couriers and provided them with flight tickets and travel expenses. Two drug mules, Aikhomoun Daniel and Ayigoro Waheed Omobolaji, were arrested on June 21, 2024, and excreted a total of 150 pellets of cocaine.

“We will continue to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking organizations, and bring their leaders to justice,” said Brig Gen Marwa.
Financial investigations linked Aremu to the arrested suspects and two of his associates, Oluwafemi Akande Abidoye and Olanrewaju Abdullahi Ramon, who are currently at large.
The Agency has blocked the bank accounts linked to the cartel and traced properties owned by Aremu.
“The NDLEA will leave no stone unturned in its pursuit of drug traffickers and their accomplices,” said Brig Gen Marwa.
The Federal High Court in Lagos has granted an application by the NDLEA to extend Aremu’s detention for 30 days and declared his two associates wanted.
