In a heartwarming tale of resilience and success, tomato farmers in Kano State have bounced back from devastating losses to reap a bountiful harvest, selling their produce for a whopping N16,000 per big basket.

This remarkable turnaround has brought joy and prosperity to the farmers, who are now able to sustain themselves and their families, even marrying off their children and acquiring new assets.

According to Mukhtar Kura, Chairman of M.K. Kura Farms, “Tomato farmers have never seen a bumper harvest like this in Kano State. The youth are getting married, buying houses, lands, and motorcycles. It’s a joyful season for them, and it’s motivated them to put in more effort during the rainy season.”

The farmers’ success can be attributed to the adoption of modern farming techniques, such as the string frame method, and the use of authentic fertilizers.

However, Kura cautions farmers to remain vigilant against pests and diseases, emphasizing the need for professional advice and modern farming techniques to ensure continued success.

As the farmers celebrate their good fortune, they are calling on the Kano State Government to intervene in the tomato value chain to address pressing issues and upscale production.
