Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin announced on Sunday that President Bola Tinubu has expressed dissatisfaction with the previous distribution of palliatives to vulnerable individuals in the country.

This dissatisfaction led to the reconstitution of a committee to oversee the distribution of palliatives, ensuring they reach the intended beneficiaries.

Senator Barau made this statement while launching the distribution of federal government palliatives in Kano, targeting the North West geopolitical zone. He urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s efforts to address the country’s challenges, emphasizing that this is not a time for blame-shifting.

According to Senator Barau, “The President has taken a commendable step by providing palliatives. However, the previous distribution was marred by inequitable distribution, prompting the President to reconstitute this committee.

Our goal is to ensure fair and equitable distribution, reaching the grassroots level.”

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Abubakar Kyari revealed that the federal government had earlier provided 90 trucks of food items and an additional 20 trucks to Kano State, but the distribution was inadequate.

For the current initiative, 19.3 trucks containing 23,644 bags of rice (25kg each) were allocated to Kano for distribution to those in need. Kyari also announced that Kano State will receive 70 trucks of subsidized 50kg rice from the federal government soon.

Minister of State (FCT) Mariya Bunkure emphasized that the palliative distribution is one of President Tinubu’s initiatives to alleviate hardship faced by Nigerians.

The committee has engaged traditional leaders to ensure fair distribution, and the palliatives are intended for all Kano State residents, regardless of political affiliation.

Chairman of the House of Representatives Special Committee on Oil Theft/Losses Alhassan Ado-Doguwa described the initiative as timely, noting that it will help alleviate hardship faced by the people. He assured President Tinubu of the support of Kano State residents in 2027.

The distribution committee comprises members from various political parties, including APC, NNPP, PDP, IPAC, security agencies, HISBAH, and KAROTA, led by Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin.
