The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, over the alleged killing of two persons and the attempted murder of three others in Olambe area of Ifo local government of the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the suspect was apprehended by detectives attached to the Ajuwon Division, following a violent attack that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.
Babaseyi stated that the incident happened at about 1:38 a.m., when the suspect allegedly stabbed five individuals with a knife after becoming agitated over failed business dealings.
“The victims were reportedly trying to pacify him when he suddenly turned on them with a knife, inflicting severe injuries,” the statement said.
Two of the victims, identified as Gbadamasi Ibrahim, 25, and Chinedu, 40, were confirmed dead by a medical doctor while being rushed to the hospital.
The trio of Mohammed Abubakar, 35; Ashiru Adamu, 25; and Paul Lawrence, 25 sustained critical injuries but are said to be responding to treatment.
“The suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack, but was subsequently tracked and arrested by our operatives,” Babaseyi added.
He noted that the suspect is currently in police custody, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the killings, describing the act as “barbaric and unacceptable.”
“The Command will ensure that justice is served. We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious or violent behaviour to the police,” the Commissioner said.
The Command also reiterated its commitment to the safety of residents and encouraged the public to make use of its emergency lines to report security concerns.
