NiDCOM to host Diaspora Economic Conference, targets $20bn remittances for investment

Published on

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has announced plans to host the Nigeria Diaspora Economic Conference (NIDEC) 2026, aiming to redirect over $20 billion in annual diaspora remittances into sustainable investments for national development.

Harnessing Diaspora Power: NIDEC 2026 Set to Drive Economic Growth

According to NiDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the conference will provide a platform for diaspora professionals, investors, and entrepreneurs to engage with investment-ready opportunities in sectors such as fintech, agriculture, and renewable energy.

“Nigerians abroad contribute over $20 billion annually to the national economy, and NIDEC 2026 is designed to channel these resources and expertise into practical nation-building initiatives,” Dabiri-Erewa stated.

The conference, themed “Invest Nigeria, Thrive Abroad,” will take place from August 13 to 15, 2026, in Toronto, Canada, and will include business-to-business engagements, partnerships, and the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at job creation and sustainable economic growth.

NiDCOM has partnered with the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa and the Canadian High Commission in Abuja to host the event, which is expected to attract a broad spectrum of stakeholders and reinforce Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening diaspora engagement.
