    FCT Polls: APC National Chair hails Tinubu, Wike as ruling party wins five councils

    ABUJA: National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has described the outcome of the weekend elections in the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Kano and Rivers States as a resounding endorsement of the ongoing reforms and governance direction of President Bola Tinubu.

    The party chief maintained that the overwhelming support recorded by the APC reflects the confidence of Nigerians in the “Renewed Hope Agenda” and their belief that current reforms will lead the country to its desired destination.

    In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Mr Abimbola Tooki, the party leader congratulated supporters on the successful, peaceful and credible conduct of the polls held on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

    He noted that the victories recorded are a testament to the resilience, unity, and grassroots strength of the APC.

    “The Abuja election, in particular, is a powerful statement by Nigerians from all walks of life that they stand firmly with President Tinubu and his bold reform agenda,” the Chairman stated.

    He added that the verdict from residents of the nation’s capital sends a strong message of widespread support and confidence in the administration’s ability to reposition Nigeria for sustainable growth and prosperity.

    The Chairman extended his congratulations to the five APC Chairmanship candidates who emerged victorious in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Kuje, Abaji, Bwari, and Kwali. He noted that their victories underscore the party’s deep connection with the people, while also congratulating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate who won in Gwagwalada, describing the outcome as proof that democracy has prevailed.

    Further celebrating the success of four State House of Assembly candidates in Kano and Rivers States, Yilwatda credited their success to effective party organization and public trust in the APC leadership. He commended the dedication of party stakeholders and acknowledged the professionalism of security agencies and election officials throughout the process.

    “As we celebrate these victories, we must remain united, focused and committed to delivering good governance at all levels. The message from the people is clear: they want results, accountability and continued reforms in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda. The APC will not disappoint,” the statement added.

    INEC has declared the chairmanship candidate of the APC, Mr Danjuma Samuel Shekolo as the winner of the Kuje Area Council chairmanship election.

    The Chief Returning Officer for the election, Professor Nkiruka Odoh of the University of Abuja, Nigeria, who declared the result of the election held on Saturday 21st February 2026, said that Mr. Shekolo scored Seventeen thousand two hundred and sixty nine votes to beat his close rival of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Danlami Zakoyi who scored fifteen thousand eight hundred and twenty four votes.

    Other Parties in the race scored as follows, A party, scored twenty-four votes. AA Party scored five votes. ADC, scored seven thousand and sixteen Votes. ADP scored eighty four votes, APGA four thousand three hundred and five votes. APM scored fifty eight votes. NNPP, one hundred and seventy-five votes. SDP twenty eight votes and ZLP scored Six votes.

    Reacting shortly after the announcement of the result Mr. Danjuma Samuel Shekolo commended INEC for conducting successful election which he referred as successful .

    Mr. Shekolo also appreciated his supporters for giving him victory in the election.

    He however promised to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Kuje Area Council.

    The PDP had won only Gwagwalada Area Council, while the APC clinched five.
