A shocking incident occurred in Niger State on February 17, 2026, where an accident victim was lynched to death by an angry mob after three AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and 104 rounds of ammunition were found in a bag he was carrying.
The incident happened around 9:50 pm at the Boyi-Sarki/Toll Gate area, where the victim and his colleague were riding a motorcycle from Tafa, Kaduna State, towards Abuja when they crashed into a construction barrier.
According to the police, one of the riders died on the spot, while the other was lynched by the mob when the rifles were discovered. The state police commander, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, condemned the act of jungle justice, stating that the suspect could have provided valuable information to help the police trace the origin of the rifles.
“We condemn this act of jungle justice. The suspect would have helped us ascertain the source of the rifle and unravel their aim,” Elleman said. He directed the Area Commander Suleja to investigate and arrest the perpetrators, while the rifles are undergoing ballistic analysis.
The police spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, urged residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands and allow law enforcement agencies to handle such situations.
