A Man identified as Nwalozie Chiwendu has allegedly killed his elder brother, Chidiebere Isaiah, over accusations of witchcraft in Ofeh Community, Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening. Witnesses said Chiwendu accused Isaiah of being responsible for his stagnation in life and attacked him with a machete, butchering him to death.
It was gathered that when the victim collapsed in a pool of blood, the suspect realised the gravity of his action and fled the scene.
Speaking on the development, the Youth President of Ofeh Community, Mr. Chinonso Chima, described the incident as tragic.
“Yesterday evening, I got a call from some people in my community telling me about the sad incident between two brothers of the same compound. The younger one carried a cutlass and butchered his elder brother like meat. Before people around could hold him, he ran away after carrying out the devilish act,” Chima said.

He explained that efforts were made to rush the victim to the hospital, but Isaiah died on the way.
Chima added that the matter had been reported to the police.
“We have reported to the Police Division here, notifying them of what happened, and the police have taken note. The boy that committed the crime is on the run, and the community is searching for him everywhere to ensure he faces the full wrath of the law,” he said.
He further revealed that the remains of the victim were deposited in the mortuary with police approval, while urging residents to remain calm.
“Let us not cause more panic in the community. We are engaging critical stakeholders, and for now everywhere is calm,” Chima assured.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Command, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, said investigations had commenced.
“Information at my disposal indicates that the suspect used a cutlass to machete the victim to death after accusing him of witchcraft that made him not to prosper. The victim’s corpse has been retrieved and deposited in the mortuary. A manhunt has already been launched to apprehend the suspect and make him face the law,” she stated.
