KANO — A loyalist of the leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children, and Persons with Special Needs, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Sani, has defected from the NNPP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Amina left the NNPP to align with Governor Abba Yusuf, who last week also defected to the APC in the state.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, confirmed that Amina has joined the APC and the league of progressive commissioners under the leadership of Governor Yusuf.
According to Waiya: “Amina, one of the pillars of the Kwankwasiyya grassroots movement, is known for her strong principles and ideological convictions. She has now embraced the ‘Kano First’ ideology to ensure the speedy development of our state and promote peaceful coexistence.”
He added that Kano’s political transformation is gaining wide acceptance following Governor Yusuf’s decisive resolve to drive progress and development. This, he said, has reawakened the political consciousness of the people, who are now choosing between the collective destiny of Kano and the interests of a few individuals.
Waiya emphasized that the movement is both real and practical, serving as a vehicle for positive change that will reposition Kano politically, economically, and socially. He described Governor Yusuf as a “game changer and committed servant of the people,” driven by his firm belief in the state’s development.

He further noted:Commissioners in charge of strategic ministries have pledged total loyalty to Governor Yusuf.
Government institutions remain functional, with policies being formulated and implemented, projects ongoing, and the cabinet operating effectively with over 85% of members onboard.
Critics, he said, should recognize that power is not lost when institutions remain committed to transformation, nor is control lost when governance structures are responsive.
Waiya dismissed sensational headlines and political drama as distractions, stressing that the Kano State Government will remain focused, diligent, and uncompromising in delivering its mandate.
“The Governor has been managing the affairs of the state effectively and strategically. The sooner critics align themselves with this reality, the better for them, as the journey ahead is transformative, progressive, and in the overall interest of all Kano citizens,” he concluded.
