theDirector-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has said that all eight corps members kidnapped by gunmen while traveling from Uyo to Sokoto have been rescued.

NYSC Director-General, YD Ahmed gave the confirmation Friday.

Recall that the corps members were abducted on August 17, 2024, on the Funtua-Bisau Road in Zamfara State. A joint effort by security agencies, including the Army, Police, and DSS, led to their rescue.

Ahmed commended the security agencies and traditional rulers for their collaboration, which ensured the safe release of the corps members. The NYSC chief also met with the Zamfara State governor to facilitate the rescue efforts.
The Director-General cautioned corps members to avoid nighttime travel, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to their welfare and security.
The rescue brings an end to the six-day ordeal of the kidnapped corps members, who were traveling to their places of primary assignment.
The NYSC DG said, “You will remember when these four members were travelling from Uyo in Akwa Ibom to Sokoto. They were kidnapped on 17 August 2023 on Funtua-Gusau Road in Zamfara State.
“While in Zambara, we collaborated with the Army, Police, DSS and traditional rulers. We also had a meeting with the governor of Zambara State regarding the kidnapping of the prospective corps members.
“Consequently, through the combined effort of the security agencies, especially the Nigerian army and the NYSC, the mission started yielding results with the rescue of the first set of prospective four members.
“The welfare and security of all members will remain the foremost concern of the organization.”
