Former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara, has expressed fury over life imprisonment slammed on the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
This is as Igbo women have rejected the judgment, saying “it appears as if it had been written before the trial started”.
Senator Wabara while reacting to the judgment, said it was not Kanu alone, “but the entire Igbo race that they imprisoned for life”.
” This is unbelievable! It’s not Kanu but the entire Igbo that they have imprisoned for life”, Wabara yelled.
Senator Wabara expressed shock that 24 hours after a Federal High Court sentenced a Boko Haram leader to five years in prison, Kanu, a non violent freedom fighter was handed life improvement.
The former Senate President insisted that Kanu is not a terrorist but seeks an end to injustice against the Igbo race.
He however, said the judgment would be appealed, expressing hope Kanu would get a favorable judgment at the court of appeal or the apex court.
Reacting also, Igbo Women Assembly , IWA, rejected the judgment, saying it was not based on any fair logic.
IWA National President, Lolo Nneka Chimezie said it appeared that the “judgment had been written even before the trial started.”

IWA expressed dismay that the court refused to accept Kanu’s written submissions and yet went ahead to deliver judgment on the matter.
IWA said “Kanu is not a terrorist but only raised his voice against injustice perpetrated against the Igbo race by those who feel they are the owners of Nigeria”.
Lolo Chimezie said it was unbelievable that the same Government negotiating with terrorists and bandits is on the other hand sentencing a freedom fighter for life.
“All he was asking is that the Igbos be given fair treatment like any other tribe. He was just asking for equity and justice for his people.”
Lolo Chimezie who was present at the court expressed solidarity for Kanu, insisting that Kanu is innocent of the charge preferred against him.
“This is unacceptable and we are kicking against the injustices that is being meted on Igbo people. It is as if the Nigerian government from 2014 to 2019 created a different law for the Igbos.
“The law they apply for the Igbos is not the same with the law they apply for other Nigerians, which has played out today. The real terrorists are being rehabilitated and put back into the military, while they cannot even negotiate with IPOB which is harmless in their demand. And their demands are legitimate.”
Reacting also, former Minister for Education and Health respectively, Professor Ihechukwu Madubuike, expressed faith that the court of appeal would upturn the judgment.
” It’s not unexpected but let’s wait for the court of appeal. He has 90 days to appeal”, he said.
Former Chairman, Council of Traditional Rulers, Umuahia North, HRH Eze Philip Ajomuiwe, expressed bitterness over the judgment, saying it is a confirmation that Nigeria hates the Igbo nation.
It was cash and carry judgement— Onuagha,
The Methodist Archbishop of Okigwe Archdiocese Most Rev. Livinus Biereonwu Onuagha, dismissed the life imprisonment sentence of Nnamdi Kanu, as irresponsible and judgement given without recourse to the law.
Reacting to the judgement , Archbishop Onuagha said it was a cash and carry judgement and very soon the judge will realize the mistake he has made and will regret it with his family.
Archbishop Onuagha also said that with the sentence, Nigeria has been exposed not to be working and the earlier the country’s is divide for every tribe to go it’s way, the better, adding that the judgement and the sentences of Kanu to life imprisonment was a deal that was struck with monetary reward.
According to Archbishop Onuagha, “with this sentence of Kanu, Nigeria has been exposed not to be working, the earlier everybody realize it the better. We want to tell those going around sacking people from their ancestral homes that it work for them in 1840s and it will not work for them again.”
“Igbo politicians are being deceived, they are living in denial, they should better be working for us to go our separate ways otherwise, they will be the ones to be displaced not the poor masses. Some of them think they have money and can afford expensive weapons when the time comes, but I pity them because they are the ones that will be disappointed and will be on the run.
“You are sending Nnamdi Kanu to life imprisonment for not carrying any weapon and killing people, but you are arresting real killer and terrorist and reintegrating them into the society and recruiting them into the Nigerian military, what a shame of a country.
“I pity Justice Omotosho, he has been misled and deceived, soon he will realize the mistake he has made and know that he has been used and he and his family will regret what he has done today, the deal will not last long and the money will vanish so quick and they will know that God rules the world not man.
“Tinubu you will be a hero if under you Nigerian of diverse ethnicity goes their separate ways, not by jailing Nnamdi Kanu. Nigeria has been exposed today as a country without law.”
