BIG DRUG BUST AT LAGOS PORT: N338bn Cocaine Seizure Sparks International Probe

Published on

AMassive haul of cocaine worth over $235 million (N338 billion) has been seized at the Tincan Island Port in Lagos, Nigeria, sparking a joint investigation involving the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the United Kingdom National Crime Agency (NCA).

The seizure, which took place on November 11, 2025, involved over 1,000 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a container at the PTML Terminal. According to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, the agency was alerted to the shipment by port operators, who noticed something suspicious in the container.

“We were able to confirm that it was cocaine after conducting a field test, and we immediately transferred the consignment to our custody for further investigation,” Babafemi said.

The Chairman of NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), has directed that the agency work closely with international partners to track down the cartel behind the importation.

“We want to ensure that no stone is left unturned and every gap is sufficiently covered so that ultimately we can get all the masterminds of this huge consignment brought to book, wherever they are located across the globe,” Marwa said.

The NDLEA is working closely with the US-DEA and UK-NCA to unravel the cartel and bring those responsible to justice, as investigation continues.
