In A significant development for the academic and Arts and Film community, Dr. Jimmy Akoh of the Department of Performing Arts and Film Studies at Lead City University has been elected as the Events Manager of the Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists (SONTA), a leading professional body for theatre artists and academics in Nigeria.
The election was held during SONTA’s 38th Annual International Conference and 39th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Lagos State, from September 2nd to 6th, 2025.
Reacting to his election, Dr. Akoh expressed gratitude to his colleagues and the university management for their support. “This appointment is a testament to the department’s commitment to excellence in theatre scholarship and practice,” he said. “I look forward to working with other members to advance SONTA’s mission and showcase Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.”

Dr. Akoh’s new role will involve coordinating events and activities that promote theatre arts and scholarship in Nigeria and beyond. He joins a team of distinguished SONTA members, including Prof. Tunji Azeez as President, Prof. Diran Ademiju-Bepo as Vice President I, and other notable academics and artists.
