231 Nigerians trafficked to Ghana for cyber crime rescued, 27 suspected traffickers arrested

No Fewer than two hundred and thirty one Nigerians who were trafficked to Ghana for cyber fraud has been rescued and returned home.

The victims, it was learnt were trafficked to Ghana with the pretense of getting them a better job, but they were given a laptop to work as a Internet fraudsters.
Some of the victims were said to have spent four to five years in Ghana, before they were rescued by the Economy and  Organised Crime Office, EOCO, Ghana and other security operatives in an estate where they were lodged.
According to the Staff Officer, Dominic Mensah, who is in charge of Human trafficking, they got information about the estate two weeks ago and struck last week.
Mensah said when they invaded the estate, both under age youths and adult were rescued in the building and twenty seven suspected traffickers who took the victims there.
“We decided to bring them back to Nigeria, because some of them were complaining of illnesses and to avoid crisis, Ghana government decided to bring them to Nigeria and handed them to National Agency for the Prohibition of trafficking in Persons and Nigeria Diaspora Commission for further investigation and profiling of the rescued victims.
“The owner of the estate where the victims resides have also been arrested and under going trial in Ghana and every other person who is involved in the act would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.Youths should stop being deceived, money is not flowing on Ghana’s road, always let your parents know who you are relating with to avoid being traffic.”
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa admonished the victims not to be ashamed of their situation, they should raise up their head.
She said we are receiving you on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, the president cares about you and every Nigerians irrespective of the country you all resides.
“As a youth, you should hold your head up and become whatever you want to be, for those of you who want to return to school, you will go back and for those who want to learn a trade we will do that for you through your various states government. Some of the places they tell you to go Nigeria is better than those places.
“I also want to thank all stakeholders involved in your return home, Chief Calistus Elozieuwa, Nigeria high commission in Ghana. Your transportation fare was made possible by Wema bank. Among the rescued victims were four girls.”
She added that, traffickers will be ashamed as those who traffick drugs are being shamed.” They will not go scot free, they will be punished for their act anywhere they are.
“NAPTIP will work with other agencies to help you secure a job. By the grace of God you will be what you want to be by God’s grace.”
Earlier, The Zonal Commandant of NAPTIP, Comfort Agboka said the victims will be profiled and the suspects will be handed over to the Economy Financial Crime Commission for further investigation.
