A fatal incident occurred recently on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, when an unidentified individual was electrocuted while attempting to vandalize a PHCN transformer.
According to reports filed at the Lagos State Police Command, a security officer on duty at a nearby company witnessed the incident. The officer noticed the individual climbing the gate adjacent to the transformer and suspected that he was attempting to tamper with or vandalize the electrical equipment.
The man was tragically electrocuted and fell into the compound, where he died instantly. The Lagos Police were promptly alerted, and a team from the Anti-Crime Patrol was dispatched to the scene. The team conducted a thorough investigation, documenting the site and taking photographs.
The PHCN office was also contacted regarding the incident. Speaking on the incident, Spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the fatal electrocution and emphasized the dangers of illegal activities involving electrical installations.

“The individual, whose identity remains unknown, was electrocuted while attempting to vandalize a PHCN transformer. His remains have been taken to the mortuary, and we are conducting further investigations,” SP Hundeyin stated. He also warned against acts of vandalism, particularly those involving high-voltage electrical equipment, which pose grave dangers to life and property.
SP Hundeyin called for heightened awareness and vigilance in the community, urging residents to report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The body of the deceased has been deposited in the mortuary as efforts continue to identify him and notify his next of kin.
